Satisfaction with Police response to reported crime

Of the 37 people who had contacted the Police in relation to a crime, 24 respondents were satisfied with the response they received. Examples of positive comments made included Helpful service, Was OK Helped me with report/paperwork for insurance Thirteen (13) people, however were dissatisfied with the response they received. Common themes were: Always a delay in the response- too slow Don't know what the follow up to the event was Not happy with their response- told them everything, didn't do much as I kept seeing the person involved face to face in the area for 18 months after the incident

Seven (7) were members of the Canley Vale Chamber of Commerce. Three (3) were members of the Canley Heights Chamber of Commerce One (1) was a member of the Vietnamese Australian Chamber of Commerce Twenty-four (24) respondents were uncertain as to whether their business was a member of either group. Perceptions of safety in 2002

Participants were asked if they felt more or less safe in 2002 than they did in the previous year. Thirteen respondents did not answer this of these seven had not been in the area for a year. Twenty -six (26) respondents stated that they felt safer Twenty five (25) respondents stated that they felt about the same Ten (10) responded that they felt less safe. Mixed responses were also provided, for example:

"It's better than before but I still don't feel safe."I'm told there are more problems now than a year ago so I am being more careful." I can't really say, it can be risky anytime anywhere."I haven't seen anything that's a problem its OK."Is scarier than before, people harass more when its dark and people aren't around.

The impact of the media image of the area and word of mouth information about crimes appears to be impacting on people's concerns in relation to perceptions of safety and the actual reality.

"We need to improve the media image of the area. Such problems are UNIVERSAL they don't just happen in Cabramatta. It's created a problem due to the bad publicity. The decision of the BPI and seven online companies to take MCPS and PRS to the copyright tribunal in the U.K. over royalty rates charged on digital downloads (Marriner 2005) adds to the evidence that the development of legal digital markets are a source of internal conflict between different parts of the music industries. This contrasts with the illegal download markets, where the majority of legal disputes have been between the record companies and external organisations and individuals.

In fact, one way of viewing popular music history is to see it in terms of conflict - such as the ASCAP/BMI dispute which acted as a precursor to rock and roll (Gronow & Saunio, 1997: 90); the industry disputes around punk (Savage 1991) and George Michael's dispute with Sony (Laing 2000). In such instances the actions of certain music businesses bring to mind Marx's description of capitalists being like "hostile brothers" (Marx, Theories of Surplus Value cited, Callinicos 1983: 125) uniting only when their interests coincide and locked in conflict the rest of the time.

The penultimate area where we consider the notion of the singular 'music industry' to be formed, institutionalised and, in some instances, contested is across the increasingly large number of courses in both further and higher education that aim to provide access routes into the industries. Using the U.K. as an example there are three issues that are worthy of consideration here: the names of courses and their content, the involvement of recording industry organisations in the education sector and the formalised links between the industries and the education sector, particularly in the shape of the recently formed Sector Skills Council for Creative and Cultural Skills which is responsible for setting industry wide competency standards.

A survey of the courses on offer at U.K. universities show a range of titles for courses covering the broad sphere of popular music studies and studies of the music industries. For example, the University of Liverpool has recently launched a masters degree in Music Industry Studies, Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College offers a BA (Hons) in Music Industry Management, the University of Westminster an MA in Music Business Management and a BA (Hons) in Commercial Music, which is also on offer at the University of Paisley.

There is a late legend that he had a son, Corythus, by OEnone, and that he killed the lad in a moment of jealousy, finding him with Helen and failing to recognise him. On the death of Paris, perhaps by virtue of the custom of the Levirate, Helen became the wife of his brother, Deiphobus.

How her reconciliation with Menelaus was brought about we do not learn from Homer, who, in the "Odyssey," accepts it as a fact. The earliest traditional hint on the subject is given by the famous "Coffer of Cypselus," a work of the seventh century, B.C., which Pausanias saw at Olympia, in A.D. 174. Here, on a band of ivory, was represented, among other scenes from the tale of Troy, Menelaus rushing, sword in hand, to slay Helen. According to Stesichorus, the army was about to stone her after the fall of Ilios, but relented, amazed by her beauty.

Of her later life in Lacedaemon, nothing is known on really ancient authority, and later traditions vary. The Spartans showed her sepulchre and her shrine at Therapnae, where she was worshipped. Herodotus tells us how Helen, as a Goddess, appeared in her temple and healed a deformed child, making her the fairest woman in Sparta, in the reign of Ariston. The Awful Antiquities Case Prosecution

What is strange is that the felon admitted to stealing a fourth antiquity, which no one knew anything about and wasn't mentioned in the submitted complaint. The prosecution went to the museum's basement with the defendant and found a small 12-centimetre sized limestone piece, which is a part of a limestone painting with inscriptions on it and was hidden under the piles of dust.

As a result of torture in detention camps, some deaths were reported and mentioned in the first report of the National Council on Human Rights in addition to the report of the Egyptian Organization on Human Rights:

On 1st of January, 2004, Mohammed Hassan Ismail, a 55-year-old peddler who died when he was detained in Azbakiya police station in Cairo. In Jan. 7th, the 30-year-old Mohammed Al Saeed Nejm, crippled, died hours after he was released from the State Security Police in Banha, Kaliobiya. He was released in a coma as he was detained for eight days with no arrest warrant or official charges. The 19-year-old Khaled Abdel Nabi Hassan died in March 13th while he was detained in Fayyed police station in Ismaliya. Al Sayyaed Mostafa Moussa died in March 20th died while he was detained in Useem police station, Giza governorate.

In April 13th, Mohammed Morsi Saleh died as a result of a dispute between him and a policeman, when the latter fired him in the public road. In June 11th, 2004, the body of Naser Mohammed Hasanein was found naked and totally swollen amid the plants, less than 36 hours after police took him from his house in June 9th in Medoum village, Al Wastta center in Bani Swef governorate. His family filed a claim to the public prosecution where they accused the police troops of beating and torturing him to death and then they tried to get rid of his body to evade responsibility. In Sep. 2004, the 31-year-old Amer Attrees died in Embaba police station in Giza governorate, ten days after being arrested for theft. His family filed a claim to the Public Prosecution saying that he died as a result of torture.

He, in about 2-year sessions, heard the two prosecution witnesses; the members of the Administrative Censorship and bank censorship in the Central Bank. Later, judge Samir Abu Al Maatti was asked to step down after the defense asked to interrogate his brother-in-law as a witness. Yet, when his brother-in-law came to court to testify, no one of those that demanded to interrogate him spoke. It came as a hidden response to the chief justice.

When judge Medhat Shaker headed the court that would consider the case, the court had to take the primary steps and summon the prosecution witnesses again with attendance of the new member, judge Mohsen Sobhi. When the court heard the witnesses and the prosecution pleading moving to the defense, lawyers of the fifth suspect, Tawfeek Abdu Ismail Ali demanded that the court should frankly and decisively determine its stance of illegal-money gain, which the court added at the beginning. It should have either neglected the charge or drawn the defense's attention to be able to respond to those charges. Torture and ill-treatment in Iraqi detention facilities

In the weeks leading up to Iraq's parliamentary elections, held on 15 December 2005, new evidence emerged to indicate that the Iraqi Interior Ministry was holding many detainees in different facilities under its control and subjecting them to torture and ill-treatment. On 13 November 2005, US military forces raided one detention facility controlled by the Interior Ministry in the al-Jadiriyah district of Baghdad, where they reportedly found more than 170 detainees being held in appalling conditions, many of whom alleged that they had been tortured.

On 8 December 2005, Iraqi authorities and US forces inspected another detention facility in Baghdad, also controlled by the Interior Ministry. At least 13 of the 625 detainees found there required medical treatment, including several reportedly as a result of torture or ill-treatment. In personal life, varna is based upon the twin ideals of psychological and social aspects of the same phenomena. The social duties of a person are relative to his/her psychological make-up.

Swadharma means one's duties in the society. It is swabhava, individual nature, that should largely contribute to swadharma. In order to achieve maximum national progress and happiness, one should follow a vocation according to his innate leanings, temperament and abilities, which is the essential meaning of varna system applied to the individual. This shows the significance of some sort of stratification or varna which exists in every society.

The Report stated that it is virtually impossible to quantify how many paedophiles visit Goa every year. Also, the sheer number of cases that were unearthed in just a two-week probe revealed that Goa attracts a high preferential of paedophilia traffic. This meant that pederasts travel to Goa for the specific purpose of exploiting children sexually. According to Wood, the paedophiles, especially British paedophiles, targeted boys "between the ages of 8 and 13."

The Report went on to reveal, "It is apparent that there are large numbers of children entering Goa from other states. Numbers vary, but the tourist industry generally agreed that there were between 15,000 and 20,000 children in the season (October to March of the next year). A sizable proportion of this group consisted of children under the age of 14. They were easy targets for paedophiles, since the children were emotionally needy and materially deprived." The then Director of Tourism estimated that 40,000 migrant children were vulnerable to sexual exploitation. Similarly, the Superintendent of Police also revealed that the police knew that pederasts exploited migrant children.

Israeli citizen reunification

Another petition was filed to the Supreme Court regarding the family reunification of an Israeli citizen and a citizen of Uzbekistan, after their request was denied. The denial of the request by Israeli authorities was a result of the vigilance of the Israeli consul in Uzbekistan who suspected the marriage was a guise for trafficking. However, as there was no supporting evidence, it was not possible to prove the suspicion and the request was eventually approved.

Isha L'Isha - Haifa Feminist Center, an NGO working in Haifa, the northern part of Israel, reported encountering about 15-20 cases of forced marriage, e.g., cases where the procurer brought the woman under the pretence of marriage, to engage in prostitution. This NGO is of the opinion that there are three categories which fit this description, but it is doubtful if all these categories can be classified as forced marriage for the purpose of trafficking: The woman is brought to Israel to work in prostitution, entering Israel through the Entry to Israel Law, 1952, that allows the non-Jewish spouse of a Jewish man of Israeli citizenship to immigrate to Israel. The woman is trafficked into prostitution; works in a brothel until she pays back her "debt".

Crossing the harmonic functions of the target (tonic vs. subdominant) and the occurrence of the subdominant (no target in context vs. subdominant in context) resulted in 48 chord sequences. This experimental material was split into two sets of 24 chord sequences (Set 1 and Set 2). For half of the participants, Set 1 was presented with targets and Set 2 was presented with foils. As foils do not correspond to lawful musical events in Western tonal music, no straightforward prediction can be made for the foil trials.2 Foil trials were used as fillers, and only the data of target trials are presented below. We don't believe in opposing each and every step taken by the government, rather we would support positive steps," Hussain said.

Interacting with media persons, PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed said it is wrong to believe that the Bill cannot be reviewed. He said the assistance represented the Pakistani people and the government in a bad light. Occasionally, an Advocate/Guardian will be advised by the represented person (or an interested person) that they do not want to reside with people of a particular ethnicity or will not accept services from someone of a particular gender (including the guardian themselves). OPA does not condone discriminatory attitudes but our responsibility is to advocate for, and make decisions, in a represented person's best interests and to achieve this outcome there will be occasions when the discriminatory attitudes will be relevant criteria informing decisions and interventions. This should be transparent so that it does not appear OPA colludes with a discriminatory perspective.

Not all complaints which might constitute unlawful discrimination or sexual harassment need to result in a complaint under the Equal Opportunity Act (to the VEOHRC) or under the Commonwealth legislation (to AHRC). There might be other, and less restrictive measures, which could resolve the situation and these should be explored first. If an Advocate/Guardian considers it in the best interests of the represented person to lodge a complaint under any Act on the represented person's behalf then they are required to consult with their manager, team leader and the Legal Unit. If the represented person has lodged a complaint then the Advocate/Guardian should explore how they can advocate effectively for them, including organizing independent legal advice and representation, if possible.

Making communities safe and inclusive encompasses preventing violence, overcoming prejudices and stereotyping of women, involving women in decision-making, acknowledging human rights and embracing diversity. The Victims of Crime Coordinator (VoCC) provides independent statutory advocacy for victims of crime within the ACT criminal justice system. A majority of clients in contact with the Coordinator are women and most of the offences involve physical or sexual assault. Overwhelmingly, victims request a higher degree of acknowledgement and respect from justice agencies. The Coordinator works to ensure victims know their rights and responsibilities as witnesses, to ensure victims are enabled to participate in the processing of their cases and to ensure victims receive services and support.

Services for victims of crime are a high Government priority. One of the significant responses by Government to improve victim service delivery has been the recent review of the Victims Services Scheme (VSS). The VSS is primarily responsible for the provision of recovery and counselling services for victims of crime, with the majority of clients being women. The Government accepted the VSS review's recommendation to relocate the VSS from the health sector to the justice sector. The transfer was completed in January 2007.

Keeping this in mind this paper will examine the concept of 'ekabhavika' (or rebirth immediately after death) that occurs in the Brhadaranyaka Upanisad but went out of circulation in Hindu belief. Today one does not even talk about the concept of immediate rebirth in popular Hinduism. The paper engages itself with the question of the reasons that could have led to the acceptance of rebirth after a period of time in other worlds in preference to the 'ekabhavika' view discussed in the Brhadaranyaka Upanishad.
